For some years now I have been buying the cheapest Braun shaver, replacing it after a couple of years with the current model. The 4835 is the latest purchase. It is the best so far and confirms my view that no-one needs all the fancy features that shavers costing over £100 boast. The 4835 gives me a close comfortable shave. It feels nice in the hand and even has a soft friendly buzz. Considering the price, a full success.

I bought this because like other reviewers here, I've found these Braun shavers are great value and they're so cheap you can change them every 3 years. This model is essentially the same as my previous 2 shavers and gives a nice clean smooth shave (mainly due to the intercept cutter between the foils). A full charge lasts me over a week but I do sometimes use a wet razor in between electric shaves. Take the manufacturers advice and change the foil AND cutter every 18 months.You can get them for about £20 if you shop around. They say you can clean this under a tap - I've no idea why anyone would want to do this! I just go outside and remove the foil and tap it on the wall, then blow any residue away. Blowing on the cutter gets rid of most stuff but I give it a tiny burst of power to loosen any remaining hair. My Braun 5612 had a swivel head which I miss as it followed my face at any angle and I shall look for this feature next time. Hint for Amazon:Please show a good photo of the foil instead of sexy photos of shavers viewed from the side. To me, it's the crucial item in ANY shaver.

Having previously been happy with Braun shavers, I was keen to try the 4835 as an upgrade for my slowly dying old rechargeable. In all regards (bar one) I have to say it's great - good battery life, good close shave, comfortable to hold, etc.

However... be aware that unlike most other shavers, this has an external power adapter which means it is extremely bulky and heavy if trying to pack it in a tolietries bag/suitcase for a trip away.

So, would I buy it again - NO. Am I happy using it everyday at home - YES. Do I use it as a portable/rechargeable shaver - NO.
